LCD displays are not only found in modern vehicles. Cars from older vintages are also equipped with the screens. Predominantly these are also those which tend to malfunction. However, this does not only refer to the LCD displays in the instrument cluster, but also displays for radios or navigation systems often show faults. But do not worry. After many years of use, these are normal signs of age.
Typical error patterns in your LCD display
The disturbances in the LCD display are particularly often noticeable in that pixels and even entire lines fail. Fading or darkening of the entire display is also possible. However, you will probably only notice this after some time, as it is a rather gradual process and is not immediately noticeable. In most cases, the errors can be corrected by simply replacing the display.
Pay attention to product descriptions in order to avoid a bad purchase
For skillful hobby screwdrivers, the "intervention" should be relatively easy to manage by themselves. Nevertheless, as with any work on vehicle electronics, caution is required. Many new LCD displays are fixed with a heatseal compound, a special electrically conductive adhesive, during repair. In this case, special information is included in the product description. When selecting a product, please also note that some LCD displays can have different cable variants and may therefore differ within one vehicle model.
